Last year this hole in the tree was the home to several different families of finches.
This year it’s the home to several different bees.
All in the same family, I’m sure.
Again you must pardon some of the shots. I know they’re not the best, but neither were the conditions under which I was taking them…
My brother, Richard, has experience with bees and assures me that I’m probably safe until they start “pinging” my head. Well, they stayed calm all through the photo shoot, but I didn’t want to push my luck. I was really only about a foot from the opening and I just couldn’t figure out how to get my tripod on top of the ladder.
At least now I know I’ll have some bees to pollinate my flowers.

I think you are very brave and these pictures are fantastic! We had bees living in the wall of our house. They got in through a little hole made by a woodpecker.
Yikes! Be careful! (I might be overreacting just a bit. I'm allergic to bee stings!)
Crikey! You want to really impress me? Get that close to a bunch of spiders. :-)
With so many of the "killer bee" stories out there, it is easy to forget that we need these little critters! That is a beautiful hive that they built but I bet the finches were disappointed to lose their cozy home.
You're a true photographer - risking life and limb to get great pictures.
Oh my goodness, climbing on a ladder to take pictures of bees does not sound like something one should take lightly. You got some really great shots!
i think i would just be glad i was not stung...so do they make rent payments in honey...one could only hope...smiles.
Break out the Honey!
Who wrote "...but only God can make a bee"? OR a finch,...or even a tree?
You are so in tune with nature, that means nature is probably in tune with you.
"Keep your head above the water"...or so they say! (Whoever 'they' is.)
Blessings, and PEACE!
