people honoring Pele (the volcano goddess), Boy Scouts and fishermen marking trails, or people showing others where vortexes are – these are all explanations for why people do this…
I have come across rocks stacked like this in several areas I’ve traveled. The reason given so that the spirits have to stop and count the rocks so it distracts them and you can be safe seems the most interesting to me. I’m pretty sure these that I found stacked in Strawberry didn’t have anything to do with Pele – volcano goddess or soccer player.

Very interesting. I always did it to remind me to be more balanced. Have a wonderful day!
I think it was placed there by a wise old Native American to mark the way to a very special place! Or maybe some kids playing around with a bunch of rocks.
HEY! I GOT IT! Those rocks ARE for Pele...it is how he practices KICKING! Right?
Oh! Wrong, you say? What the heck do YOU know? Ya think this is YOUR blog? OHHHHH! I forgot! it IS your blog. How can I delete this paragraph--grin!
PEACE TO YOU--ALWAYS!
BTW...nice pic!
I have seen these everywhere. I remember as a kid reading about how people used to mark trails with rock stacks. Or to show which way to turn. But maybe just decorative for today. MB

I take it you didn't find anyting interesting at this location.
I founded a lot of such "kerns"...

or placed by alpinists as bench marks...
Whatever the reason, I've always liked stacks like these.
