Blossoms for remembrance….

I have had the most lovely time with Mary for the last day and a half.  She’s now on her way up to Payson to spend some time with her father.  It will be his birthday on Tuesday. I believe she will be back to see me again on Monday.  She would like to go to the Heard Museum and possibly the Bead Museum.  I’m game and looking forward to seeing her again.

She has kindly agreed to not corrupt or tell stories of our exploits to my daughter until she is at least 21 years of age!  Whew!  That was a close one.  It’s always comforting to reconnect and share memories with her.  It grounds me and balances me.

My cactus bloomed  just for her and I told her I would post a photo and be sure everyone knew the bloom was especially in honor of her visit.  I hope you all have someone special in your lives like Mary.

Oh, she is a friend to be treasured!

Two questions:

Is this an echinopsis?

Do prickly pear blossoms come in different colors?

(I know nothing about cacti. What was your first clue?)

It must've been amazing to have the chance to be with such a great friend. Your flower photos are superb!

Kathy - I'm not sure what the name of this one is. It was a gift years ago from a neighbor that has long since moved away. I have started several other plants from the original and given them away...each time in honor of my friend. It blooms at night and the blossom doesn't last long.

As for the prickly pears blooms - I saw yellow ones while on a walk in Peoria the other day and orange ones on my yard sale trek. So, yes, I think there are enough different varieties that they bloom in different colors.
